| HLAMBAMASOKA GAME RESERVE is part of our farm, and encompasses over 1600 hectares of unspoiled, peaceful bush, indigenous forest, and grassland. The game reserve is very scenic, and is bordered by the swiftly flowing waters of the Umgeni river. The river tumbles over black rocks as it winds its way through our reserve with areas of white water, and still peaceful pools with “flying fish” and wading water birds. Game viewing on open game vehicle in our reserve is particularly rewarding, as there is abundant game, including wildebeest, giraffe, kudu, zebra, the ever elusive leopard, many other antelope, and smaller nocturnal animals, such as genets, servals, bushbabies, karakul, porcupines, antbear, and civets. The bird life here is profuse, and incredibly varied, from water birds to birds of prey, and is a haven for birders. You will often be rewarded with the sight of a secretary bird striding through the grasslands. Fish eagles nest near our dams, and the phenomenal visit of hundreds of yellow billed kites who visit to roost on the cliffs above the game reserve every March, is a sight to see. |
